Jasric Austria was recognized for her outstanding artistic and inventive talents as she bested more than a hundred of participants at #TobaccoFreeGeneration Digital Poster Making Contest on November 20, 2020.
Austria, a Grade 12 student in Saint Louis School of Pacdal, Inc. (SLSPI) bagged the special awards in the digital poster making contest with a theme “Imagining A World Free From Tobacco”.
She came to know about to the event as she was browsing her Facebook Newsfeed. “Parang ad lang sa Facebook ganon, yung sponsored page,” she shared.
The competition was announced on November 10; however, she only saw it on the 13th of November, just three days before the submission of poster. Seeing the cash prize, quickly though about joining the event, “three days before the due ko na nakita tas para sa cash prize lang talaga,” Jasric added.
The duration of the event was school days, Jasric also have her school modules so she had to prioritize the poster and rushed her activities after.
With 126 participants, only five have been chosen – the top three and the two special awards. Knowing there are more than a hundred of entries, Jasric did not expect to win.
After three days, Noveber 17 – 20, of online voting, the winners of the said competition has been annouonced. Upon hearing her name in the live awarding, she felt happy, surprised and thankful. Austria said “Thankful kasi madaming sumoporta ganun. Kung wala yung support niyo, ‘di ko makukuha yung award na ‘yon.”
Austria brought back another glory. Even though the event is not school-related, it is also another feather on the school’s cap as another Louisian wins a national event.// Chynna Angelu Fernandez
